Some have questioned Royal having the money to just have a belt commissioned, when he wasn't promoting but, maybe he figured he could sell it to Crockett and get a commission out of it. The original design included the NWA lettering, but Crockett passed on it and Royal liked it and had them make it for him, without the NWA lettering, then when Crockett saw the finished belt, he bought it off Royal. The firm who made it specialized in rodeo belt buckles (which are about as big.) and Nelson Royal had done business with them and referred Jim Crockett to them, to have a new title belt designed. Ps Big Gold was actually a belt that Nelson Royal had made, for himself and sold to Crocket. I mean, any long-time WWF/WWE fan knows that winners of the Rumble didn’t get a world title shot until 1993, so if someone writes that it’s been part of the Rumble since 1988, it makes you wonder if they have a cursory knowledge of the “winner gets a title shot” idea and didn’t bother to check when the concept debuted. You do begin to wonder if some people aren’t fans, but just writers who have skimmed over Wikipedia. They wrestled, but it was not a world title match. Then someone once claimed the Ultimate Warrior defended the WWF Championship against Randy Savage at WM VII. The “winner gets a world title shot” began in 1993. I do sometimes come across erroneous information on wrestling sites, especially those sites doing top ten lists and all.įor instance, someone wrote that Royal Rumble winners have been getting world title shots since the event debuted in 1988. I mean, I watched WM VI, so I am pretty sure anything I write about the event will be true at other times, I might have to double-check things or two.Ĭodystarbuck fact-checked some stuff here pertaining to the territories, for which I am grateful. I strive for accuracy when I post things here (or anywhere).
